Mushroom Pizza Burgers

Mike and I both loved these burgers. I can see us making these often. The bread crumbs are so little that it adds little to the carb counts but does add fiber. The main carbs come from the vegetables that are sautéed and eaten on top.

Mushroom Pizza Burgers

  • 1/2 cup sliced fresh mushrooms
  • 1 medium onion, cut into rings
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1/2 green pepper, sliced
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano


  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 4 Tablespoons Italian seasoned bread crumbs
  • 2 egg whites
  • 4 Tablespoons Parmesan Cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 8 slices mozzarella cheese
  • pizza sauce (lowest in carbs- I use Krogers Pizza Shop-4 carbs)

In a non-stick pan heat 3 tablespoons olive oil until hot. Add mushrooms, onions, and green peppers. Cook until soft and then add garlic and oregano and cook  3 minutes more. Set aside

In a large bowl, combine all ingredients except the mozzarella cheese and pizza sauce. Form into 8 patties and place on well-greased foil. Place on hot grill and cook until done. Top with mozzarella cheese and remove from grill. Top with warm pizza sauce and vegetables that you had cooked earlier. Serves 8.
