Sausage with Mushrooms and Cheese

I saw a similar recipe in a cookbook that was for appetizers. I thought what if you just threw it all together in one pan and made a meal from this? It turned out wonderfully.  I buy my sausage from a local farm and it tastes so much fresher than store bought sausage. I can’t go back to buying sausage in the grocery store now that I have tried the fresh sausage.

Sausage with Mushrooms and Cheese

  • 1 pound mild breakfast sausage
  • 8 ounces Portobello mushrooms
  • 2 cups Italian Blend Cheese

In a skillet that can also go under the broiler crumble your sausage in the pan.

While it is cooking cut your Portobello mushrooms into fourths. I used baby bella mushrooms.

When sausage is almost completely cooked, add the mushrooms to the pan.

When the mushrooms are finished cooking drain off any excess liquid in pan. When you use farm fresh sausage there won’t be any grease to drain off. This is another reason to buy from a local farmer. 🙂

Next add cheese and place under the broiler until cheese is melted. Serves 5.

Nutritional information is as follows. : Calories- 257, Carbohydrates- 3.6 grams (Fiber- 0.7 grams, Sugars- 0.8 grams)

If your low carb diet allows you to subtract fiber and sugars from the carbohydrates that comes to 2.1 carbs per serving.
