There I said. Fiber! At some point in your life you have to honestly look at your fiber intake. I know it isn’t a topic that anyone wants to talk about or even think about but it is necessary. Seven years ago I had a very bad case of swimmers ear and my doctor put me on Cipro. I immediately developed horrible constipation and spent the next 6 years taking two doses of Miralax daily just to feel normal. This became very old and and very expensive over the years. I was miserable and didn’t see a light at the end of the tunnel for me.

My doctor sent me to a specialist and I had the dreaded Colonoscopy which came back as normal. Nothing was found that could be causing this issue. A few months ago I discovered a natural solution to this problem. I am taking in huge amounts of fiber and I feel normal once again. If I slack off even one day on my fiber intake the constipation immediately comes back.

I will give you a secret to what I am doing. I am eating the Instant Cinnamon “Oatmeal” that is on this blog.

I love this stuff and it is warm and filling and will hold me over until lunch. It never spikes my glucose either. This recipe has been such a blessing to me.

As you all know I work with seniors and retirees mainly with my job and it never fails that when I am talking to people about their health they always bring up their need for fiber. I had a friend once tell me that dating and getting to know someone when you are my age somehow always involves a discussion on needed fiber intake. haha I have found that to be true. Over the course of the last year I have had several gentlemen call me in hopes of dating but it has never felt right so I haven’t gone. I have never disclosed my need for all of this fiber but they always bring up their need for fiber at some point in the conversation. Why is it that a need for fiber, constipation or having a problem such as Irritable Bowel or Crohn’s Disease is something that no one wants to discuss. It is a real issue and we need to not be embarrassed to discuss it.

Eating low carb is not what has caused my problem. I had the issue prior to my Diabetes diagnosis and eating low carb.  I know in my heart it was the Cipro as the constipation starting on day 2 of taking the medication. Quite a few people have difficulty eating low carb because of their gastro issues and needing to limit certain food intake. As if dealing with Diabetes isn’t enough to deal with many of us have secondary health conditions that also need special care as well. I hope this over sharing of my health issues helps someone and doesn’t just cause people to run for the hills never to return to the blog again. haha

  2. I am glad to hear you are feeling better. I had a simular experience but mine resolved when I stopped using artificial sweeteners. I do low carb paleo now.

    • Mine started a year before i started using artificial sweeteners. I just load up on fiber 🙂 i am glad you are here! 🙂

  3. I have a friend that does not “go” for 1 to 2 weeks…She does take an herbal tea and it helps. This recipe looks great.
