Isaiah Loves Healthy Food

I am currently in Virginia visiting my daughter, Samantha and her husband Ben and two year old son Isaiah. This fabulous kid is Isaiah.

Yesterday I took him to Toys R Us to let him pick out a toy. He went through the entire store and decided on this shield. He loves Captain America and he has barely let this out of his sight.

This was him watching Super Why. He told me to be on the watch for bad guys because he had his shield if we happened to find any.

Later we went outside and he watched teenage boys play football in the street. He also watched for planes.

He tried on the Captain America masks at Toys R Us and they were all way too big for a 2 year old so he had to settle for wearing last years Halloween Costume of Spider Man while playing with the shield.

This morning he got up at 6:15 because he knew that I was visiting. He came into my room with the cat to wake me up as they do each morning. We sat on the couch and watched cartoons together. Can you tell how tired he is?

Afterwards we went to yard sales and I found him a bike with training wheels and a blue bouncy Spiderman ball. He loves them both.

Last night I cooked dinner and Isaiah ate very well. I made Turkey Saltimbocca Meatballs, Mashed Cauliflower and Roasted Brussel Sprouts with Parmesan. Isaiah cleaned his plate and kept saying how much he loved the Cauliflower the best. This made me very happy that he eats healthy.

My visit isn’t over yet but I just had to share my wonderful family with you.

Isaiah Quotes

I am currently in Virginia visiting my daughter while my wonderful neighbor is holding down the fort at home. I awoke this morning by having a cute 2 year old come into my room and crawl in bed with me. He brought his side kick Bucca who is his tuxedo cat with him.

We are having horrible flooding and snow storms in WV and the snow came to Virginia today but it is very light. Isaiah kept looking out the window hoping he would get enough snow to go sledding in. He does love the snow.

Throughout the day Isaiah cracked me up. I love the innocent things that a child can say to melt your heart. These are a few of those conversations.

#1. During lunch we had the following conversation.

Isaiah- I want strawberries

Samantha: You have to eat 3 bites of your grilled cheese sandwich before you can have strawberries.

Isaiah: 2

Samantha: No 3.

Isaiah: 2

Samantha: No 3. This is not negotiable.

Isaiah: 4

Samantha: OK you win!

He ate 4 bites and then had strawberries. hahaha

#2. During dinner. Samantha has horrible morning sickness that strikes in the evening instead of the morning. She struggled through dinner eating tiny bites at a time.

Isaiah: Mommy I am so proud of you for putting food in your tummy for the baby! I love you!

Samantha: I love you too Isaiah! hahahaha

#3. While playing hide and seek with me. He was the one hiding this time.

Me: I will count to ten and then come to find you. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

Isaiah: (from under the kitchen table) what comes after 10?

Me: 11.

Isaiah: OK

Me: 6. 7. 8. 9.

Isaiah: (giggle) Β you won’t find me. TEN!!! (giggle)

This kid had me cracking up today.

For dinner I made Pepper-Crusted Roast Beef, Cauliflower Au Gratin and Steamed Broccoli with butter. Isaiah loved all of it but he ate every single bite of the Cauliflower Au Gratin. He kept calling it mac and cheese. We didn’t tell him otherwise. πŸ™‚

He promises to play with me again tomorrow and I had better rest up. I know I will be very busy! Life is good!

Christmas in Virginia

I just spent the last 5 days visiting with my daughter, Samantha and her family. Her husband, Ben was quite busy with work and unfortunately I didn’t get to see him as much as usual but I did get to spend quite a bit of time with my 2 year old grandson, Isaiah. He is every kind of fabulous. This sweet little boy has completely stolen my heart.

Samantha helped me to chop veggies one day and we prepared a relish tray and a dip to snack on so that we would make good decisions during our visit. I was very surprised how excited Isaiah was to have sliced peppers and the dip. He even decided that he liked cucumbers after all.

I will share the dip recipe in a post tomorrow! πŸ™‚

While I was there we went to Bass Pro Shop so Isaiah could see Santa and we were put on a waiting list. We had 2 hours to kill so we went to the restaurant inside the store. I can mark something new off of my bucket list. We ate alligator for the first time. πŸ™‚ It was actually very good.

Bucket List

Even Isaiah and Samantha tried it. They both liked it. Samantha took a picture of me eating it but she never sent it to me from her phone so I only have theirs.

Afterwards we went to see Santa and he didn’t mind standing there and letting Santa speak to him but he wasn’t going to sit on his lap or say anything back to Santa. He was very happy afterwards and said, “I didn’t cry!” πŸ™‚

We opened gifts while I was there and Isaiah was very happy.

Samantha has 2 cats and a dog. While all of her pets are very sweet one stands out. I would have a cat in a heartbeat if I could only have one with this cats exact personality. Sambucca is fabulous!

Isn’t he amazing? I would take him so quickly but he loves Isaiah and the other cat doesn’t like to be far from him for more than a few minutes. If Isaiah ever cries Bucca runs to him and rubs against him. He wants to calm him. He is so precious.

Samantha introduced me to the show- The Voice! I loved it and am now hooked.

The recipes that we made while I was down there included.

Salisbury Steak with Onion Gravy

Pepper Crusted Roast Beef

Chicken Paprika with Sour Cream Gravy

So this is my visit in a nutshell. I will be sharing 2 new recipes. I will type them tonight and schedule them to automatically upload each day.

Art With Caleb

I have thoroughly loved every age of my grandchildren. They are so great to watch experience new things. This morning Caleb played football and he was one big mud ball when it was over.

He got to play the Center position this morning and he really enjoyed it. He loves football and even the drizzle and cold temperatures didn’t stop the boys from having fun on the field this morning.

After the game he came back to my house to spend the night and I gave him a little lesson on Abstract art. He said he had seen it at the art museum when he went with his school. I had bought some canvas a few weeks ago so I brought them out and we did our own version of Abstract Art. First we taped off areas of the canvas.

Then we began painting in the areas.

After it had dried we used a stencil and some antique lace color of paint and added faint flowers to the top. Then we removed the tape and were very pleased with the finished project. At one point Caleb was not happy with his painting because he had mixed the paints so much on his canvas. In the end his painting was much prettier than mine. I need to take lessons from the six year old. πŸ™‚

Don’t tell his Mommy about his painting. Monday is her birthday and he is giving her this as a present. πŸ™‚

Isaiah went to the beach last week with his parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents and even his great-grandmother on his Dad’s side of the family. He had so much fun. I was blessed that Samantha shared pics of his fun on the beach.

Orange is definitely his color!

The Boys Weekend!

I didn’t get to see Isaiah this weekend but Samantha did send this picture of him. He was watching the WVU football game yesterday and he began doing this in the floor. He picks things up quickly. Β Too cute!!

Caleb stayed the night with me last night. Yesterday he went shopping with me, my sister, Donna and her husband David. He picked out a Bible to take to church when he goes with me. This morning he was in bed sleeping while I showered and got ready for church. I was drying my hair and turned around to find him standing there. He was completely dressed and holding his new Bible. He was ready to go!!!

When we came home he asked me to take a picture of him with his new Bible.

He came home from church and sang this song the entire day.

I love seeing how much he loves Jesus and how he soaks up every word that he hears about Him. It makes this Grandma smile.

My Boys!

I have been very blessed with being able to spend time this summer with both of my grandsons. They are both growing up so quickly and I don’t want to miss a minute of it. Last month I went to Virginia for a few days and I got to get little boy hugs from Isaiah. Each day we went to a playground and he was so independent but he didn’t like to be far from Mommy.

This is Isaiah playing with his toy food that I bought him for his birthday. He is going to be quite the little chef someday!

Isaiah playing on the tractor. This was his favorite thing to play on. He could really make it go back and forth.

Don’t worry one of us was on the ground below the opening and one of us was always directly behind him. He would start up the stairs and then look back and say, “Are you coming?” Of course we all had to go down the slides with him,

Caleb is now playing football and learning to swim and float. I have a nice pool at my new home and he loves coming to visit on the weekend just to get in the water. On our first trip he refused to take off the water wings to keep him afloat. Now he only wears goggles, dives below the water to get things off the bottom of the pool, and can swim short distances. Last weekend he learned to float. He was very proud of himself.

Caleb is now playing football and he loves it. He is getting pretty good at keeping his eye on the ball.

So this is how I have been spending my summer. I have 2 new recipes to try today. If I like them they will be on this blog soon. πŸ™‚

Toy Closet

When I first moved into my new home I had planned to add shelving to the closet in the boy’s room but Caleb had other plans. I had planned to temporarily put the toys in the walk-in closet in the hallway upstairs but it became the perfect small room for toys. Donna and David donated an extra shelf to allow us to put Isaiah’s toys a bit closer to the floor so that he could reach them. This is what happens when you lose control of your closet to your grandchildren.

And the boys have just enough room to play in the floor together keeping their room neat and clean!! This has turned into such a blessing in my home.
